Shuffle Seed - Draw Your Own BIP39 Seed

Every bitcoin wallet starts with 2048 words. The Shuffle Seed puts all of them in your hands: six A5 sheets to push the words out of, a bag to mix them in, eleven or twenty-three chips drawn blindly. That is all it takes to create your own seed – no electronics, no firmware, no random number generator you cannot look inside.

Before you draw, you check the alphabetised sheets against the official BIP39 word list on GitHub. From there on, only your hand decides which words your wallet gets.

How your seed comes together

1. Check the sheets against the official BIP39 word list.
2. Push out all 2048 word chips.
3. Put the chips in a bag or a hat and shuffle them thoroughly.
4. Draw blindly: 11 words for a 12-word seed, 23 for a 24-word seed. Every chip goes back into the bag before the next draw – repeats are valid and part of the process.
5. You do not draw the final word, it carries the checksum. Your signing device calculates it.
6. Back the seed up on a steel plate, chips back in the bag for next time.

Why not dice?

For the record: 11 drawn words carry 121 of the 128 entropy bits of a 12-word seed, 23 words carry 253 of 256 – the remaining bits and the checksum come from the device that calculates the final word.
