What you need them for

If you don't want to leave your hardware wallet's seed to the device's random number generator, you create the entropy yourself: With dice. Five dice per roll speed up the process considerably, and a set of 5 different colors fixes the order of the digits without having to arrange the dice after each roll (e.g. always blue, green, purple, red, yellow).

What makes casino dice different

Ordinary board game dice have rounded corners and drilled pips. Both can shift the weight distribution slightly. Casino dice, in contrast, are built for uniform distribution:

• Razor edges: Precisely manufactured edges for clean, unbiased rolls
• Flush pips: The pips are inlaid flush with the surface, not drilled, so there is no one-sided material distribution
• Balanced acrylic body: Homogeneous material, polished transparent, tampering would be visible
• Serial number: Each die carries a 3-digit serial number, a casino safeguard against switched dice

Frankly: You don't need casino dice for a secure seed. An ordinary board game die provides enough randomness if you roll often enough. We still chose casino-grade dice because they minimize systematic bias, because our customers ask for them, and because they are simply the better tool. Details in the blog article.
